As conflict photographers, the organizers of the workshop recognize the value and importance of sound knowledge and preparation before entering a war zone for work.

Whilst we accept there is no course in the world that can fully prepare you for such an unpredictable and potentially hostile working environment we feel there is much we can offer as working professionals to share knowledge and experience to prepare, as much as possible, the photographer for their assignment in a conflict zone. This is particularly true given there is no other existing bespoke course on the subject.

This six-day workshop is intended for those early professional and student photographers who have an interest in covering conflicts but who have yet to experience the real thing and who have unanswered questions but no one to ask.

As a highly specialized discipline workshop will be held in Croatia from Tuesday 27th April - Monday 3rd May 2010. The workshop begins in Dubrovnik and ends on the island of Prvic.

In a vocation like photojournalism there is no text book to follow because of the huge diversity of situations that can present themselves on any given job. For that reason we have decided the best way to help those wanting in on the profession is to offer more than just formal lectures and course work. Whilst there will be plenty of class work and formal teaching, we have specifically structured the week to give students as much access as possible to experienced professionals so that knowledge and advice can be imparted not just inside the formal confines of formal teaching but also through the informal, but crucial, mechanism of getting to know people who have been there and done it.

As any photographer or journalist covering a war will tell you, “there is nothing like good advice when you don’t know what’s going to happen.” And to that end the course is structured to give the students the best possible access to experienced professionals

The price of the workshop is 990 Euro which covers the tuition fee, 5 nights accommodation in Hotel Maestral on Prvic Island , transfer from Dubrovnik to Prvic, welcome dinner in Dubrovnik and BBQ dinner in Prvic. Students receive 33% discount ( 660 Euro ) .
